Busy commuter? Live inside a Brussels railway station

20:53 07/11/2017

If you think your daily journey to work needs shortening, here's an opportunity to move into a Brussels railway station.

From 2019, time-pressed commuters can have a home inside the Uccle Calevoet station building. The SNCB is handing over the property to the municipality, which plans to build three new apartments, while keeping a waiting area for passengers.

With views over the platforms, you could leave home just before 8.30, catch a train a minute later and be in central Brussels for 8.45.

The renovation of the station building is part of a wider regeneration of the Chaussée d'Alsemberg area. The unusual property project will receive €264,000 in regional funding.

Uccle Calevoet is on the Nivelles to Antwerp line via central Brussels. Residents should get about six hours of peace and quiet between the last train and the first, which calls at the station at 5.30 in the morning.
