Stoempdog: Fast slow food in Brussels
Stoemp is one of the great comfort foods: creamy buttery mashed potatoes mixed with an endless array of vegetables and served most often with sausage. It is now evolving as chefs are inspired to upgrade and create on the basic theme. Albert Verdeyen the self-proclaimed King of Stoemp has three cookbooks to his credit with 172 different stoemprecipes. Now he and restaurateur Cédric Gerard have opened Stoempdog, a restaurant in the Halles Saint-Géry. Their gimmick: serving the stoemp with its sausage in a specially created hotdog bun. If bread and potato is not your idea of a perfect match, don't worry, they also serve their stoemps the traditional way.

ECC pantomime: Cinderella
For lovers of pantomime, the English Comedy Club, under the direction of Cath Howdle, has adapted the pantomime Cinderella to comically reflect 2016’s political goings-on. This was not a difficult job for Howdle as 2016 provided her with a wealth of unbelievable events to draw from. As in all pantomimes, girls pretend to be boys and boys pretend to be girls and the cast of Cinderella do not disappoint with the ugly sisters and other characters expertly played by seasoned pantomime actors. At the Auderghem Cultural Centre, 13-15 January.

Nazanin Fakoor at La Bellone
It's always a pleasure to discover La Bellone, one of Brussels' most spectacular hidden gems and during the end of the year to coincide with the Winter Wonders it's especially worth a visit because each year an artist is given carte blanche to reinterpret the space. This year Iranian artist Nazanin Fakoor has created an environment which reflects in a virtual, liquid, and obscure and ever changing way, depending on the movements of the visitors, the fearsome Bellone, Goddess of the atrocities of War depicted in all her glory on the front of the building. Until 14 January.
