Brussels swimming pools to cut chlorine levels

10:00 26/09/2017

The city of Brussels has invested in new technology to reduce the amount of chlorine in its public swimming pools.

The water treatment equipment has already been installed at the municipal pool in Neder-over-Heembeek, with pools in Laeken and downtown Brussels to follow shortly.

The system uses a UV lamp and a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to clean the water, making it possible to keep chlorine levels below 0.3mg per litre.

The technology costs €210,000, 80% of which has been subsidised by the Brussels region, and also allows for energy savings.
