Brussels STIB/MIVB looking to hire 1,000 in 2014

08:39 30/01/2014

Brussels local transport company STIB/MIVB has announced its plans to hire 1,000 new employees this year. The recruitment push comes after 847 were hired in 2013 to fulfill the demands of increasing ridership, new projects, and retiring employees, many of whom have been with the company for 35 years.

Of the 1,000 the company is looking to join, 450 of them will be drivers. The company says that together the buses, trams, and metro made 354.7 million trips, and indicates this number will continue to increase as public transport becomes more popular by the year. In addition to the need for drivers, the demand is also high for technicians to maintain the growing fleet, as well as security guards along the routes. There are currently 7,250 people employed with STIB/MIVB.
