Brussels set to add schools and crèches

08:18 18/12/2013

Finding a seat in a Brussels’ classroom or day care for your child will soon get a bit easier. The city’s new mayor, Yvan Mayeur, has announced that 2014 will see an increase of funds dedicated to building new schools, day care and sports centres.

Brussels is planning on investing up to 116 million euros to add two new schools in the city in addition to opening two new day care centres. The crèches will create an additional 140 places for children, while one of the schools will include a Dutch middle school in city’s centre.

The decision to expand comes in response to Brussels’ shifting and growing demographics. However, the added infrastructure will not see anyone’s tax bill increase as the city foresees a balanced budget for the coming year.
