Brussels to ring in New Year with fireworks (under one condition)
The City of Brussels will ring in the New Year with a fireworks display on New Year's Eve, so long as the terror threat level remains at three, writes De Morgen following the announcement made by Brussels mayor Yvan Mayeur.
Like last year, the fireworks display will take place at De Brouckère. But unlike last year, security at the event will be more vigilant, with police requesting that spectators not bring bags or handbags.
Also new this year will be the entertainment provided between 23.00 and 1.00, including a DJ-led sound- and light show stretching from De Brouckère to the Bourse. The intention is to spread out the crowd for safety reasons.
