Brussels pedestrian zone to be fitted with retractable bollards

14:58 23/08/2017

From 1 September, access to the pedestrian zone at Rue du Midi and Rue des Grands Carmes will be governed by retractable bollards, writes Bruzz. The short, sturdy vertical posts are designed to block traffic and prevent ram raiding.

The new automatic system will be activated next week. Such Bollards are already in place at a few access points to the pedestrian zone, such as Rue de l'Étuve near Manneken Pis.

Those who want to drive through the pedestrian area need a special badge or code, which can be applied for via the City of Brussels website.
