Brussels parks closed due to high winds

13:15 31/03/2015

Parks and cemeteries across the Brussels-Capital region are closed today for fear of falling branches and trees, as forecasters expect gusts of more than 90km per hour. The city’s parks will remain inaccessible until at least Tuesday evening, reports brusselnieuws.be

The region recommends avoiding all wooded areas. High winds on Sunday uprooted trees in Brussels’ Sonian Forest, and on Monday the Bois de la Cambre was temporarily closed to traffic to allow for the removal of several fallen branches and trees. In Saint-Gilles on Sunday evening, high winds brought down a street lamp, which landed on the ground near the Cambio station at Porte de Hal, damaging a parked car.

With high winds expected to continue today, the City decided to close all parks and cemeteries until further notice.
