Brussels' oldest woman dies aged 108

13:45 17/02/2016

Antoinette Mélis, Brussels' oldest woman, has died. She celebrated her 108th birthday last year in October, writes Brusselnieuws.

Mélis was a real Bruxelloise, who lived in the Brussels communes of Molenbeek and Anderlecht her entire life. She spent the last eight years in retirement home Paloke in Molenbeek, where she passed away peacefully on Tuesday.

People who knew Mélis described her as "always cheerful and full of life." She played Scrabble every evening and practiced yoga for more than 34 years. But growing old gracefully also seems to be in her genes, as Mélis's mother lived to be 99, and her sister 104.

TVBrussel spoke with Mélis last year on her birthday.
