Brussels Justice Palace to maintain judicial function

11:42 25/10/2016

During a meeting on Monday on the future of the historic Justice Palace in Brussels, federal justice minister Koen Geens and federal security and interior minister Jan Jambon said that they will submit a master plan in the coming weeks. Despite numerous touristic proposals, the building will keep its legal function, writes Bruzz.

"We worked out a master plan with all parties involved, which we will submit to the Cabinet in the next few weeks," Jambon confirmed.

Five years ago, a competition was launched to find a new function for the protected monument. The winner proposed to use the Justice Palace, with its imposing tower rising high above the city, as a central hub for culture, shopping and recreation in the capital. This, and all similar proposals are now definitively scrapped in favour of maintaining the building's original function as a courthouse.
