Brussels homeless shelters set to open for the winter

15:39 13/11/2016

The Brussels -Capital Region will again provide winter accommodation to its homeless population starting on Monday, writes Bruzz. A total of 1,283 shelters across the Capital-Region will remain open until the end of April 2017, and extra places can be made available where needed.

"We are ready to accommodate the people who need it,” says Brussels minister of family affairs Pascal Smet. “Since the beginning of this legislature, some 300 additional shelters have been created, so that no homeless people should have to spend the cold winter months on the street.”

Samusocial, the organisation in charge of the coordination of the shelters, aims to provide shelter to everyone who needs it. “We not only provide a roof over their heads, but also hot meals, shower facilities and medical assistance. We also offer psychosocial support to help them find a way off the streets,” Samusocial spokeswoman Marie-Anne Robberecht told Bruzz.
