Brussels demonstration to disrupt traffic on Tuesday

23:42 18/09/2016

A rally in Brussels' city centre on Tuesday afternoon and evening is expected to cause significant disruption to local traffic, warns the Brussels-Ixelles police. The demonstration is an initiative of the Belgian anti-CETA civil movement and trade unions, which are opponents of the free trade agreements between the European Union, Canada and the United States to be discussed in the Belgian parliament on Tuesday, writes De Morgen.

The protestors will gather on Rue de la Loi between 16.30 and 19.00, and continue along Rue du Taciturne, Rue Joseph II, Chaussée d'Etterbeek, Rue Belliard and Avenue d'Auderghem before ending up at the Schuman roundabout.

Several streets and tunnels towards the city centre will be closed for the event, the police warn, and may remain closed until as late as 23.00.
