Brussels-Capital Region shows off new flag

12:45 04/03/2015

At the end of last year, the Brussels-Capital Region unveiled its new logo and with it a new flag. On Monday the first new flags were raised on several of the Region’s buildings, reports Het Nieuwsblad.

The former golden iris on a blue background, which dates from 1991, was replaced by a playful grey and white heart amid two yellow leaves. The change comes as part of a marketing strategy in which the Region and its institutions come together under one modern house style.

Not everyone is pleased with the new look, according to the newspaper, saying they miss the classic iris logo without the “cheesy heart”.

I'll say it again: bad flag. We look like a Scandinavian country, we do not need more gray to represent anything in Belgium, the heart is "cheesy" and will date poorly, and we should have at least used our national colors (black, red, yellow).

It will make no difference to anybody and without knowing for sure, I expect a great deal of taxpayers money will have been spent on this.
