Brussels-Capital Region allocates €275,000 to combat radicalisation

05:39 07/01/2016

The Brussels-Capital Region is to provide €275,000 to help fight terrorism and combat radicalisation. The funding will go to finance an educational project set up by the 39-year-old playwright Ismaël Saidi (pictured), author of Jihad, a short play about three young radicalised Muslims who leave Brussels to fight in Syria, writes Le Soir.

Saidi aims to deradicalise youth in Brussels and beyond by producing short film versions of the play in three languages. The author hopes to make the videos available as soon as possible online, as well as in schools and cultural centres across Brussels.

"The situation is urgent,” confirms Brussels minister-president Rudi Vervoort, regarding the radicalisation of Brussels youth. “We need to come up with the right tools to get to the root of the problem."
