Brussels cafés and brewery among world’s "best beer destinations"

12:33 26/01/2015

Both Chez Moeder Lambic bars and the Cantillon brewery in Anderlecht have made the list of the world’s best beer destinations, compiled annually by the website RateBeer.com. Lambic and geuze café In de Verzekering Tegen de Grote Dorst in Lennik, just outside Brussels, came in second place.

The website’s list of ‘Top Places To Have A Beer In The World' in 2014 includes bars, restaurants, breweries and beverage vendors. The ranking is a summary of the world’s best beer retailers as judged by the beer enthusiasts at RateBeer.com and calculated from their many reviews.

Both branches of Chez Moeder Lambic made the list, with the Fontainas location (pictured) coming in 21st place, while the café in Saint-Gilles came in 28th place. Cantillon brewery in Anderlecht was 27th on the list.

Bars from the periphery around Brussels also scored well. In de Verzekering Tegen de Grote Dorst, a folksy café only open on Sunday mornings, was even selected as second best beer destination in the world. Beer restaurant De Heeren van Liedekercke in Denderleeuw, East Flanders, finished in 15th place.

RateBeer is a respected and comprehensive website and has become well known in Belgium due to its regular praise of Belgian beers, especially the Westvleteren Trappist, which it has selected several times as the best beer in the world.
