Brussels attacks cost state €322 million

The 22 March terror attacks in Belgium have so far cost the state about €322.7 million in compensation to victims and material damage, according to figures from federal deputy prime minister Kris Peeters, reports Le Soir.

The attacks at Brussels Airport and Maelbeek metro station left 32 dead and 324 wounded. In addition to the human suffering, the attacks also had a direct financial impact on the economy.

Peeters estimates the cost of the attacks on the airport and metro at €93.6 and €67.7 million, respectively. Victims' compensation to cover the costs of medical interventions and surgical procedures amounts to another €136.4 million. An additional €18.9 million was set aside to cover property damage and €6.1 million for moral damages.
