11:59 17/02/2015

Alex Joseph, head chef of Brussels restaurant Rouge Tomate, at the weekend took home the award for Young Chef 2015, an international cooking competition for best young chef in all of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, reports tvbrussel and brusselnieuws.be.

A jury headed by Michelin-starred chef Sergio Herman chose the 29-year-old Joseph, from California, as this year’s best up-and-coming chef out of ten candidates, including chefs Kobe Desramaults (In de Wulf), David Martin (La Paix) and Steven Dehaeze (Culinair).

Joseph convinced the jury with his dish of rabbit with potato puree, seasonal vegetables, purple mustard and pickled wild onions.

Joseph, who has worked at Rouge Tomate on Avenue Louise since 2009, will compete in June against the winners from 19 other regions during the Young Chef 2015 world finals in Milan.
