Brussels Airport to try facial recognition technology

10:29 28/07/2014

Starting next year, travellers at Brussels Airport could be subject to security checks with face recognition, a measure intended to reduce cases of identity fraud, writes Het Nieuwsblad.

Security checks using face recognition are already standard in other major airports including London Heathrow and Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

“The computer system will compare the photo stored in your passport with a photo made on the spot,” explains the Belgian federal police.

First, a pilot project will be set up at six electronic kiosks. If that works out, the electronic passport check system with face recognition will be used more frequently.
