Brussels Airport expects continued delays after power failure

14:25 15/06/2017

The security checkpoint in the departure hall of Brussels Airport has reopened following a power failure, and is now allowing groups of 50 to 60 people to pass through security. The power was down for about five hours, leading to long queues.

The power outage caused the departure hall to go dark and the computer systems to shut down. For reasons of fire safety, hundreds of travellers were forced to wait outside the airport doors.

Many travellers tweeted their impatience to Twitter and warned about the airport's poor communication and handling of the situation.

A spokesperson for the airport advises travellers to contact the airlines to find out departure times, and to travel as lightly as possible.

It is not yet clear what caused the power outage.
