Brother of Brussels suicide bomber takes home gold

Belgian taekwondo athlete Mourad Laachraoui won the final of the European Taekwondo Championship for his weight group on Friday in the Swiss Montreux. Laachraoui, the brother of one of the suicide bombers at Brussels Airport, is a candidate to represent Belgium at the Olympic taekwondo games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 21-year-old Laachraoui (pictured) won gold in the final of the under-54kg category against the Spaniard Jesus Cabrera Tortosa, having previously defeated Russia's number three in the world Stanislav Denisov.

Mourad Laachraoui is the younger brother of Najim Laachraoui, who blew himself up at Brussels Airport on 22 March and was also linked to the November 2015 attacks in Paris.

In an official statement two days after the attacks, Mourad distanced himself from his terrorist brother.
