British MP concerned about Eurostar Belgium immigration loophole

12:32 05/09/2013

Keith Vaz, the chairman of Britain’s Home Affairs Select Committee, has said he was concerned about an immigration loophole involving tickets on the Eurostar, reports Politics Home. "I’m very concerned at a loophole where you can buy a ticket from Brussels into France to pass through Paris and Lille and you’re not then checked until you reach the United Kingdom,” Vaz told the BBC. “What we need to do is first of all ensure that there is full staffing complements at the borders, but we also need to make sure that we work with EU colleagues. France and other countries have a responsibility to work with the UK in order to make this effective. You know where our border stops: it doesn’t start at Calais, it starts at the border between Greece and Turkey – that’s where you have 100,000 illegal immigrants crossing into the European Union every single year, and their destination of choice is not Athens – it is London, Amsterdam, and Paris. So we need to work with international colleagues to make sure this is successful."

He's obviously never taken a ride on the Eurostar from Brussels to London. You must go through UK Customs at Brussels Gare Du Midi.

You pass through UK customs in Brussels. And then once again in London now it seems. What an idiot. BTW, one does not go to Paris then Lille.
