Brit applying for dual Belgian passport

Question

Now it looks like the Brexit referendum will happen "soon" - has anyone gone through the process of getting a Belgian passport.

I've been putting it off, but now I must take the plunge and apply.
Any good approach to the process?

There is a search facility where you will find much information about obtaining Belgian nationality. Your local commune will also be able to help. Why you would do it though is a bit of a mystery to me. Don't think Belgium is about to start throwing out productive Brits.

I can understand why someone would want to expel MIKE, but the Law has different criteria.

If you want to become Belgian (and it's not as daft as it may sound to most Brits), ask at your commune and they will guide you through the process(es)

If you get dual nationality you may not need a passport - most Belgians do not have one.
You can travel throughout the EU and to most nearby holiday destinations - Turkey, Tunisia, Norway and many others - on your Belgian ID card.

Dear J....I know I humiliated you in the past, but no need to do it to yourself. If you could list the advantages of a Brit taking Belgian nationality rather than just suggesting it's a good thing, we would be all ears.

Why be Belgian?
- Cheaper travel
- Full democratic rights
- Permanent right to social security benefits and healthcare

A Brit living in Belgium gets travel at the same price as the locals, he has just as much right to social security and healthcare as the locals and as to democratic rights, being forced to vote for yet another socialist coalition on pain of being fined if you do not is a dubious benefit.

Q - "Any good approach to the process?"

A - There is only one approach. Go to your commune.

- Belgians don't need the ridiculously expensive British Passport to travel
- I'd have you down as an NVA voter Mike. Not exactly socialist, and the largest party in the coalition.
- When you move away from Belgium, you'll eventually lost your right to come back here and sponge off the state. Dual nationality leaves that option open.

Lol....The cost of a British passport is your issue! Every ten years? What's that per day? How about the cost of VISA's for Belgians that Brits don't need? Oh, the right to come back and scrounge off the state? Yea, we Belgium is certainly the place for that.

Well slap me with a leather cam belt and call me pocahontas - Mike has humiliated me once again. How can I ever show my sorry face in public ever again?

Now, he's going to have the opportunity to further humiliate me and show Belgium's overwhelmingly obvious deficiencies by listing where Brits don't need a visa but Belgians do.
