I think anybody not living in the UK, preferably in a high immigration area, needs to shut their faces. My UK tenant has just shut down his one man band plumbing/heating engineer business because of eastern Europeans forcing down prices, no longer worth it. Instead he has taken a job with a housing association and guess who he's visiting on a regular basis? Yup, immigrant families on housing benefits. Us expats, usually in privileged positions in life need to mind our own darn business.

'Expats' are immigrants.

Mike, the situation affecting your mate in the UK, it's called the "free market", you know, the thing us Brits like to bang about all the time.

And yes, just when do "expats" become "immigrants"? Something I've always wondered.

Nationalism is a very dangerous thing. British have to see that "Empire" is over. They should work for being a good, productive, contributing nation, collaborating with their neighbouring countries. "We are better" attitude is not productive. After all, do you teach your children this attitude? No, I am sure you teach being social, collaborative and productive. Britain is in the brink of dangerous nationalism. This may go as far as dividing itself. It is sad!
