Boarding the train without a ticket will now cost 7 euros

10:48 03/01/2014

New rules will see SNCB travelers paying a higher fee of seven euros when they board a train without having a ticket already in hand.

According to SNCB, the current system that has passengers seek out the conductor to purchase a late ticket before boarding is often unclear and exists in a grey area.

Two rates currently apply to passengers who did not purchase a ticket before reaching the train. If the passenger notifies the conductor, she pays three euros more than the ticket price. If the conductor is not notified, the fee increases to 12.50 euros. However, this method leaves much to dispute, so the new single fee will solve all future discussions on the trains.

The new rates will come into effect beginning in the second quarter of this year.
