Beware of this moving company ARK HOLDINGS/24-7 Movers International VAT / BTW: BE0837 712 784

Question

Hello fellow Xpats,

We hired Ark Holdings for our move from Brussels to Athens. They picked up our belongings on 29/06/2014. We paid them €1,902.07 and took out insurance with them. We came to Athens with one suitcase each.

6 weeks later and we don't have our things, we're still living in a hotel in Athens and the owner of the company, Robert Adam Kasozi has disappeared, along with our money.

A few days ago I found out from the police that this company filed for bankruptcy in November last year, but that they're still operating in Belgium! http://www.arkholdings.biz/

Can anyone offer advice on what to do next in order to recover our belongings and our money?

Thank you,
Sasha

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation.

I'm curious, how did you find this company to begin with?

Hi JBMAC,

By doing an internet search on moving companies in Belgium and emailing them all. Out of the ones that got back to me, many couldn't do the long distance, (they did domestic moves, or went as far as the U.K or France for example), and the ones that could go to Greece, wanted up to 5k to take our things by land. This was the first company that suggested sending them by sea. At the time it made more sense, because he said it would be faster and cheaper. He has a blog where he tries to come off as professional, and to be honest, he was very prompt in replying to my emails and phone calls, until he stopped replying completely...........

Thanks for the response...well, is interesting because most likely you're not the first one that this happens to.

You would think that the police would set a trap...pretend to be a customer and when the movers show up, bam, get arrested.

In fact, the police don't care, most likely.

I had a friend who rented his apartment to this guy who ended up not paying the rent for months, so my friend took him to court and everything. Turned out that the guy was a professional at doing this for a living and when he went to the police, they said, oh yes, we know about this guy. He goes to different towns, gets a lease, pays the first month, but then doesn't pay the rest. But yea, we are too busy to deal with him.

Busy doing what? Riding horses around Brussels and going for 2 hour lunches?
