Belgium’s PM says country is back on track

04:06 22/01/2014

Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo says that the country will meet the economic expectations set by the European Commission following its political crisis two years ago. Di Rupo said that Belgium is in line with the reform targets, which were set after the country went more than a year without a government. However, he warned that the possibility of political uncertainty after this coming May’s elections could derail the progress.

Last year, the EU said it expected Belgium to set its sights on a balanced structural budget by 2015, with very modest budget surpluses in the years to follow. One of the EU’s goals for Belgium is for the country’s debt ratio to peak to drop to 93% of its GDP by 2016.
