Belgium’s 10 cars most likely to get a speeding ticket

The Belgian Road Safety Institute (BRSI) sorted the 3.3 million speeding fines handed out last year to drivers in Belgium according to car brand and model. The results show that the drivers of certain vehicles are more likely to ignore the speed limit, according to an infographic (pictured) in Het Nieuwsblad.

Perhaps most surprising are the results showing that the drivers of a Citroën Berlingo, a modest, family car, tend to rack up a fair amount of speeding tickets in Belgium.

When looking at the percentage of speeding fines handed out to each model in proportion to that model’s presence on Belgian roads, the Citroën Berlingo, BMW 520D and Volkswagen Passat have the highest scores. When looking purely at the number of speeding fines, however, the Volkswagen Golf, Opel Astra and Audi A4 come out on top.  

The Volkswagen Polo, Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta and Renault Megane complete the top 10.
