Belgium has fourth highest number of strike days

An average of 71 working days per 1,000 workers are lost every year in Belgium as a result of strikes, according to an analysis by the German research institute WSI for the period 2006-2015. The result puts Belgium in fourth place worldwide.

France tops the list with 123 days per 1,000 employees, followed by Denmark (122) and Canada (79). In Belgium, there is a declining trend, as the country saw an average of 84 strike days per 1,000 workers for the period 2005-2014.

The countries with the fewest number of strike days are Switzerland and Austria (2 days per 1,000 employees), Poland (5) the United States (7) and the Netherlands (8), according to the study. Germany has an average of 20 strike days per 1,000 employees.
