12:42 04/03/2015

Champagne imports to Belgium last year rose by 2.3% to 9.74 million bottles, making Belgium the fifth largest importer of Champagne, reports the Benelux Champagne Agency.

Belgium accounts for 6.67% of global Champagne exports, according to the agency. On a global scale, Champagne imports last year rose by 0.7% to 307.1 million bottles. The largest importers of Champagne are the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and Japan.

Total sales amounted to €4.5 billion in 2014, the Champagne region’s second best year ever, "mostly thanks to export," added the agency.
