Belgians have never been more charitable

11:13 26/04/2017

Belgians give more money to charity than ever before, according to the Philanthropy Index published every three years by the King Boudewijn Foundation (KBF) and think tank Itinera. In 2016, nearly two out of three Belgians gave an average of €165 to charities, writes De Standaard.

The results of the index come from a telephone survey of more than 1,000 Belgians. Compared to 2013, a clear positive trend could be seen, showing that 80% of Belgians (73% in 2013) believe that a donation contributes to a better world, and 54% (45% in 2013) even see it as a moral duty.

The most popular charities in Belgium support health and medical research, humanitarian and development aid, poverty alleviation and social justice.
