Belgian UPS is not ringing the bells

Question

This has happened many times so I find it necessary to write it here. We pay fro fast delivery by UPS and then they are dropping a paper slip in post boxes instead of ringing the bells. Both my husband and me were at home when they say they claim the parcel. On top of that, I was at home all day. I could hear. This company is cheating a lot. If it goes on like this they may loose their market safer in Belgium.

At least you got a slip in the mailbox...Bpost often claim they came calling at the door , and got no reply , I was at home during the times they claimed they came calling , I don't bother to complain anymore to Bpost , their customer service is as bad ; just laughing at their customers .

Also had terrible experiences using them in Belgium.

I've had bad experiences with UPS - it depends on who they farm the delivery out to.

By far the worst delivery company I have ever dealt with here is PostNL, to the point where if I see them pop up in the delivery details I always cancel the order and buy somewhere else that doesn't use them.

Their drivers regularly lie about deliveries and I've had two items stolen. Got the money back but it's a hassle to have to do it.

I must say, I've never had "phantom" deliveries from BPost and I've lived here for 20 years.

UPS and all the major courier services have, in my experience, been excellent.
BPost an the other hand are disgraceful. Time and time again they stuff a slip in the mailbox as they approach the house. Despite that I may may be sitting in the front window ! Only way round this is to sit in wait and open the door as they approach, which is not the way to do things.

Having been involved in the industry some years ago, I can tell you that we tend get the service we pay for.

The same happened to me repeatedly in Washington DC, so not a Belgian problem by any means.

I have never had a problem with UPS but Bpost is a problem every time. I am retired so am at home all day but time and time again I go to get the mail and there is a slip saying I didn't answer the door!!

We would all like a ring on the doorbell if a parcel will not fit in our mailbox but what does the Bpost rule book say their personnel should do when that happens? Are we complaining that we get a note in the mailbox when the rule book says that that is exactly what should be done?
If we assume that around 80% of houses are unoccupied during the working day - certainly the figure in my neighbourhood - ringing the doorbell is likely to be a waste of time and just delays the inevitable 'note in the mailbox'.

I had the same issue with UPS in Brussels. Indeed they rang the bell - but had disappeared within 20 sec it took me to open the door only to find the paper slip already in the letter-box !
