Belgian fuel prices hit six-year low

12:10 19/01/2015

The cost of petrol and diesel fuel in Belgium continues to decrease, reports the Federal Public Service Economy. The cost of Euro 95, currently around €1.131 per litre, has not been as low since May 2009, according to data on the Belgian Petroleum Federation website.

Exactly one year ago, the maximum price of Euro 95 unleaded petrol was just under €1.6 per litre. In some filling stations across the country, customers are paying less than €1 per litre for diesel.

The price drop is the result of falling oil and fuel prices on international markets, according to the FPS Economy. However, oil prices should recover from the sharp decline over the course of this year, reports De Morgen based on predictions from the International Energy Agency (IEA).
