Belgian footballer gets lengthy ban for match-fixing

12:48 17/07/2013

Torino’s Belgian goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet has been banned for three years and seven months for suspected match fixing, reports Football Italia. The Belgium international was the most high profile player to face sporting fraud charges relating to two games involving Gillet’s former club, Bari. Bari lost both games,  0-1 to Treviso in May 2008 and 2-3 to Salernitana in May 2009. The ban could effectively end the career of the eleven-time international, who is 34. Another twenty men were also handed bans yesterday by the disciplinary panel of the Italian Football Federation.
