Belgian companies unite against cybercrime

12:58 21/10/2014

About 50 organisations and companies in Belgium have joined together to form the new Cyber Security Coalition. The aim of the partnership is to fight against the growing problem of cybercrime across the country.

Computer crime costs the Belgian economy about €3.5 billion euros annually, or more than 1% of gross domestic product (GPD). During the first half of 2014, on average about 614 incidents of cybercrime were reported monthly, an increase of 80% compared with last year.

The Coalition is an initiative of the Cyber Emergency Team (Cert.be), a national research network for cybercrime, along with the Belgian Cybercrime Centre of Excellence for Training, Research and Education (B-CCentre), the Solvay Brussels School, the Association of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB) and telecom company Proximus.
