Belgian citizenship

Question

Hi all,

Question on citizenship. I applied in January based on 7 years of residence. Today I received a negative. It was based on the fact that my official chronology had a gap in it. Actually, there were 2 gaps, but they refered to only one. I knew about this and got in touch with my commune before applying. They explained that such things are not uncommon and provided me with a letter stating that there were gaps, but it happens and I was living there regularly. I also attached a letter from my previous employer who confirmed that I was full time employed + tax extracts showing that I was working/living here every month and paid taxes. Didn't help!

Question is: has anyone been in this situaiton? What did you do? I am also not sure whether they will now send my application to the Chamber of Reps [as I have lived here enough years to go by the slow procedure] or do I need to re-apply?

Many thanks in advance for ideas!

Same thing happened to me, except that I'm an EU national married to a Belgian, so I only had to prove 3 years of residence (or was it 5? I can't remember). Anyway, at one point I was too lazy to renew my verblijfskaart at the gemeentehuis so I didn't bother and ended up with a 2-week gap. I have now been in the "slow procedure" for about 3 years, but since there was no government here for so long, I suppose my file is one among many in the huge backlog.
