Belgian and Dutch authors on UK literary tour

11:20 14/01/2013

Authors from Belgium and the Netherlands are on a six-city UK tour, writes the Liverpool Echo’s Catherine Jones. The writers are all prize-winners in their own countries and will showcase the best ‘High-Impact’ literature from Europe in a series of readings, discussion and debate sponsored by Flanders House and the Netherlands Embassy in London. Chosen for their wit, wisdom, performance skills and brilliant books, the six authors have produced some of the most exciting literature in Europe. They are Lieve Joris, whose journalism and non-fiction books on Africa, China, the Middle East and Europe have earned her a reputation as the VS Naipaul of the Low Countries; Herman Koch, former actor and bestselling novelist of The Dinner; Peter Terrin, winner of this year’s AKO Literature Prize and author of psychological thriller The Guard; Nigeria-born, Belgium-based poet, short story writer and award-winning novelist Chika Unigwe; novelist Judith Vanistendael (pictured) – the Posy Simmonds of Belgium - and writer of When David Lost His Voice; and Ramsey Nasr, the Dutch poet laureate who is known for his prose, politics and exciting public appearances. The tour begins today in Oxford and will travel to Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield, Norwich and London.
