Beat the Brussels stress: Why everyone should try boxing

Nothing beats the feeling of punching your troubles and stresses away. Try a boxing initiation for free at Aspria on 16/17 November

We've all had one of those tough days when a walk, a run or a workout has made us feel better. But have you ever considered boxing?

"Boxing boosts confidence," says Reney Nazim, group well-being manager at Aspria. "The benefits go beyond the physical and into the realm of mental and emotional health."

Aspria has just opened a new boxing studio at its premier workout club in Brussels' EU district, near Arts-Loi. The sport is a full-body workout that is suitable for everyone, says Nazim, and it can help banish stress, tension, frustration and anger.

"Learning to box is about self-control, channelling anger in a combat situation, remaining calm and composed - a huge life lesson. I strongly recommend everyone give boxing a try."

Boxing lets you combine cardio and all-round muscle strengthening - helping you develop speed, agility, co-ordination and flexibility.

"I started boxing when I was 14 years old," says Ryad Merhy, the new WBA light heavyweight world champion and member of Aspria. "Besides the physical aspects of boxing, it's a discipline which allows you to let off steam while respecting yourself and others. You get to work on your reflexes and your mental agility. Boxing is a school of life and of humility."

I used to play squash for the same reason. After a hard and fast squash game then all the irritations of work would disappear!!
