Avenue Fonsny is Brussels' most dangerous crossing

06:39 10/11/2015

The intersection at Avenue Fonsny and Rue de Russie next to Brussels South Station is the most dangerous place in Brussels traffic, according to a study that identified 30 'high danger' zones in the city. In response, Brussels minister for road safety Bianca Debaets has announced that she will make the zones a priority.

The study, carried out by the Belgian Road Research Centre (BRRC) in collaboration with the Belgian Road Safety Institute and Espaces Mobilité, examined a total of 101 zones in Brussels with a high accident rate. The results produced a list of 30 so-called 'black zones', or high danger areas. These include the Hermes Rotunda in Anderlecht, the intersection of Rue de la Loi and Rue Royale, and the Porte de Namur in Ixelles.

But the pedestrian crossing where Avenue Fonsny meets Rue de Russie was deemed the most dangerous spot, with one fatality, seven seriously injured and 68 slightly injured between 2010 and 2013.

I think most casual visitors could be forgiven for not knowing that there was a Belgian minister for road safety, a Belgian Road Research centre and even a Belgian Road Safety Institute. I wonder what they do? Apart from fill expensive government buildings on cozy salaries with a job for life?

Thank's to MIKEK, a casual visitor will be astonished that Bruxelles pretends to be the centre of Europe, European culture and civilization.
