atradius financial claims abroad - legal action

Question

Hi Xpats,We've recently moved from Brussels to Sweden and have received a financial claim from a company called "Atradius" in Belgium. It is a minor claim from our former bank (Dexia) about insurance charges that they incurred after we cancelled the policy. We disputed the charges (they were obviously trying to rip us off as we were closing our account) and didn't receive a response. Now they are threatening us with legal action from Belgium, via this Atradius, if we don't pay.

Again, it's a minor amount and we just don't have the energy to do the dance again with Dexia and now this claims agency.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing (esp if you're in Sweden)? If we just ignore it, and they decide to take legal action, does it have any practical consequences for us in Sweden? We really want to get this out of the world, but it would be a bitter pill to swallow if we had to pay this just to get this agency (and the courts?) off of our back.

Thanks in advance.

J

Send copies of the correspondance you sent to Dexia to Atradius (they will be a debt collection agency) that show that you don't owe them anything, and they will take it up with Dexia.
