Atomium targeted for attack in Syrian video

09:06 12/12/2013

An internet video has surfaced containing threats of violent attacks targeted against government officials, and the landmark Atomium.

The video was posted on the YouTube account of Antwerp’s Brian De Mulder, who left Belgium to join the fight in Syria against the Assad Regime. However, it cannot be confirmed if the video was in-fact posted by De Mulder himself. Reports suggest that the man is in the city of Aleppo in northern Syria, where rebels and government troops have violently clashed, reducing the ancient city to ruins.

In the video, the Atomium is suggested as a target, as well as Belgian Defense Minister Pieter De Crem and the right wing Dutch politician Geert Wilders. Lyrics suggest a bomb at the Atomium

YouTube has since taken down the video from the site and anti-terrorism police are investigating what they see as a serious threat.
