Artificial reef installed off Ostend

12:24 22/08/2013

Thirty large concrete reef balls were lowered into the water at the port of Ostend yesterday which will be used to form an artificial reef  at the bottom of the sea between the existing offshore wind turbines. The idea is to give plants and marine animals a safe place to thrive and flourish, including a variety of worms and mollusks which will then provide food for fish, as well as perhaps marine mammals such as seals and porpoises.
