Around 50,000 New Year revellers expected for Atomium celebration

11:06 29/12/2017

The Heysel plateau will host the city of Brussels’ traditional firework display on New Year’s Eve, from 22.30 to 1.00. It’s a double celebration for the capital’s iconic site; marking the start of the 60th anniversary programme for the Atomium and Expo 58.

From 22.30, a DJ will set the crowds dancing while a light show illuminates the majestic architecture of Palais 5. To follow, Antwerp company Theater Tof presents a modern opera all in lights, along with ‘Garden of Angels’, an aerial show filled with fairytale characters, including angels, musicians and dancers.

Foodtrucks will be at the site providing snacks and refreshments. Expect security checks at the entrances. Bags and big objects are prohibited and glass bottles are not allowed at the event, as well as private firecrackers and fireworks.

Public transport is free from midnight. If you drive to the site, Parking C is accessible from the ring and Chaussée Romaine (€5).
