Applying for Belgium Nationality

Question

Dear xpats,

Does anyone have any personal experience of getting the nationality, their process and the waiting time please?

Was thinking to apply for the nationality, but not sure how the procedure and what kind of documentation should be submitted and how.

I am my self civil cohabitated together with my friend from Belgium and currently holding F+ card. Living here since 2012 and working since 3 years.

Any very personal experiences or advices would be highly appreciated and thankful.

Cheers to all,
HG

This article from The Bulletin's archives is all about groups who's object is to help people through the naturalization process:

MPG (Migration Policy group) policy analayst Tom Huddleston - an American who has become Belgian makes it his business to help people through the process.

You need certified translation of your birth certificate. You need to get a fresh copy, as it can't be more than 12 months old.
You will also need to have been legally in Belgium for more than 5 years (so apply in 2018)
And if you have been working for 3 years, you will need proof from your payroll company that you have paid social security.
You may need to prove you can speak one of the local languages, but in my case, this wasn't necessary, as I had a full social security payment record.

Take all those papers to the commune, pay what they tell you to pay (should be around €200), go back with proof of payment and sign the papers, and wait 4 months.

After staying over 5 years initially, what about if you leave the country for several years then go back. Does the previous 5 years count and Belgian nationality is straightforward?

No previous stays do not count.
