Air Force helicopter to visit 11 schools in Poppy Flight

09:26 25/01/2018

The Belgian Air Force has partnered with schools across Belgium for a special day of first world war commemorations on 1 February.

A helicopter will visit 11 schools - one in each Belgian province and the Brussels region - and two students from each school will have the chance to be on-board.

Additionally two students from each school will spend the day at the military air traffic control centre in Ghent to follow the helicopter flight from behind the scenes.

"We want to commemorate the end of the first world war and keep this commemoration alive among young people," the Belgian Air Force said.

"What's more, the Belgian defence in general and the air component in particular have a large shortage of motivated candidates. This flight will work as an engaging recruitment exercise."

Among the schools taking part in the Poppy Flight are the International School of Brussels and the Athénée Royale D’Ans in Liège Province.
