Administrative cost or pure profit, fines by monopolies?

Question

For starters, it does NOT cost 7,50 to send out a letter, a reminder. For two, if that is truly an "administrative cost (as they claim) and that is what it really does cost, how can it be DOUBLE the next time as is threatened!? That is not a cost, that is a FINE by people with no legal jurisdiction. Worse, they reduce the time you have to pay the bill with the first reminder so increasing the chance of them getting 15 Euro for a freaking letter for the second one!

It does NOT, NO WAY, cost 15 Euro to send a second reminder! I would suggest this is pure profit enforced by a monopoly ( De Watergroep) and what makes it worse is it the incompetence of B-post that has resulted in this situation happening time and time again.

Please don't tell me I should give all Belgian companies free access to my bank account and that would have prevented this. I have tales of those who have and regretted it

This time, no way. I will pay. Bad timing for them. Hell will freeze over before I pay this and for those who are likely to suggest I will be held at the airport, get real. ID card handed in in the morning and Landlady already informed. To heck with this dump.

Mimi- You paint a picture of what happens all too often in business, but it's pretty far removed from the Belgian companies that supply water to the consumer. No I did not know when the bill would arrive and why the hell should I have to do so in order to protect myself from "gotcha" charges"?

No - you're an idiot for ranting and making yourself look like a complete idiot. If you don't like the term, maybe "stuck-up f**kwit" is a bit more descriptive. I'm relieved you feel humbled by my contribution. It gives me a sense of achievement.

Next time, do the easy thing and take the direct debit option, like normal people do, and accept that a measly 7,50 is really not worth the hassle of arguing about.

J- Your reading skills seem to match the standard of the answers you give on this board. Go back and read s-l-o-w-l-y and you will see that I have no interest in giving companies free access to my bank account because I have seen the horror stories resulting from doing so, and particularly companies that seek to generate extra revenue from the practise of adding punitive charges for their own failings

How old are you? You can tell us you are not an idiot all you like but it's rather pointless when it is clear to any reader that somebody answering a question (or a rant if you prefer) with "idiot" is hardly a grown up and sensible person. The fact it's a "measly" 7,50 is hardly here or there, but I don't expect somebody of your level of maturity to understand that.

Yes, J, it's a rant. A rant does not make somebody an idiot. Your use of this board clearly marks you out as a complete cowardly prat that would probably piss your pants if you thought you had to speak to me like this face to face. A nasty cowardly little board troll hiding behind his keyboard.

It's the local sheep like attitude to charges like this that let companies get away with them. Speaking to somebody else about this he seemed to think it was OK because other companies do it as well! Seriously, the Belgian consumer is a complete and utter mug.

This particular "utter mug" has been successfully doing things the Belgian way since the previous century. I've had the odd late-payment surcharge, but always because I've forgotten to pay on time. Goes back to bad British habits where I never used to pay until I got the reminder.

Given that you seem to be somewhat prone to violence and come across a bit of a psychopath, yes, I think I will stay behind my keyboard.

""The highest average wage in Flanders is among workers in distribution of electricity, water and gas, at €3,922 a month""

I suppose it is easy to spoil your employees when you have the freedom to rip-off the public and have a system of illegitimate earnings that have nothing to do with your business and everything to do with your business being a monopoly. And you are happy with it, J?

Looks like you went native.
