92 architects bid to renovate Citroën Cultural Centre
An international architecture competition to renovate the former Citroën garage in Brussels into a culture centre and museum of modern art has attracted 92 proposals.
A selection committee will now examine all the bids and shortlist seven teams for the second phase of the competition, who will have until the end of the year to submit a more detailed project outline.
A final decision is expected in spring 2018 by an international jury led by Swiss architect Roger Diener and construction is due to begin in 2019.
The Brussels-Capital Region’s Urban Development Corporation (SAU-MSI) launched the competition in late April after buying the Citroën Yser garage in Brussels' canal district in 2015.
Once converted, it will be home to a museum of modern and contemporary art, an architecture centre and public spaces for cultural and educational activities.
The total budget for the renovation is €125 million and more details can be found at www.citroenculturalcentre.brussels
